SEWER LINE RECONSTRUCTION ON NORTH KALAHEO AVENUE

EFFECTIVE THURSDAY, APRIL 3, 2003

The City & County of Honolulu will commence a major sewer line reconstruction project on North Kalaheo Avenue between Kuulei Road and Kainui Drive.  North Kalaheo Avenue will be CLOSED to all vehicular traffic during construction hours. During non-construction hours, only one lane will be open.  Therefore, for the duration of this project (approximately two years), buses operating on the following routes will service all bus stops along the routes and will detour as noted below:

24 HOURS PER DAY, 7 DAYS PER WEEK (INCLUDING HOLIDAYS)

Route 70 - Lanikai / Maunawili

Eastbound:    Maunawili (Maleko Street/Aloha Oe Drive) to Lanikai (Alala Road/Aalapapa Drive): No detour.

Westbound:   Lanikai (Alala Road/Aalapapa Drive) to the Marine Base Kaneohe Hawaii (MBKH) to Maunawili (Maleko Street/Aloha Oe Drive) Trips Only: Buses will follow the regular route to Kuulei Road/N. Kainalu Drive (HFD bus stop). Then, detour left onto N. Kainalu Drive, right onto Kainui Drive, left onto N. Kalaheo Avenue, and resume the regular route to and from (inbound and outbound) MBKH. Then, buses will continue west on the regular route to N. Kalaheo Avenue and Kainui Drive and detour right onto Kainui Drive, left onto N. Kainalu Drive, right onto Kuulei Road, and resume the regular route. 

Route 85 - Windward Express

Eastbound:    Kailua (Kuulei Road/Maluniu Avenue) to Kaneohe Bay Drive/Likelike Highway Routing: Buses will follow the regular route to Kuulei Road/N. Kainalu Drive (HFD bus stop). Then, detour left onto N. Kainalu Drive, right onto Kainui Drive, left onto N. Kalaheo Avenue, and resume the regular route. 

Westbound:   Kaneohe Bay Drive/Likelike Highway to Kalanianaole Highway/Auloa Road Routing: Buses will follow the regular route to N. Kalaheo Avenue and Kainui Drive. Then, detour right onto Kainui Drive, left onto N. Kainalu Drive, right onto Kuulei Road, and resume the regular route.

Route 86 - Windward / Pearl Harbor Express

A.M. Operation:   Buses will follow the regular route to Kuulei Road and N. Kainalu Drive (HFD bus stop). Then, detour left onto N. Kainalu Drive, right onto Kainui Drive, left onto N. Kalaheo Avenue, and resume the regular route.

P.M. Operation:   Buses will follow the regular route to N. Kalaheo Avenue and Kainui Drive. Then, detour right onto Kainui Drive, left onto N. Kainalu Drive, right onto Kuulei Road, and resume the regular route.

Temporary Bus Stops

Temporary bus stops have been installed in both Eastbound and Westbound directions at the following locations along N. Kainalu Drive and Kainui Drive:

  •  On N. Kainalu Drive at Makawao Street

  •  On N. Kainalu Drive at Kapaa Street

  •  On N. Kainalu Drive at Palapu Street

  •  On N. Kainalu Drive at Uilama Street

  •  On N. KainaluDrive at Kaha Street

  •  On Kainui Drive at Kaha Street
