FULL CLOSURE OF H-1 FREEWAY FOR WIDENING PROJECT

HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION will conduct a full closure of the H-1 Freeway between the Middle Street merge and the Likelike Highway off-ramp. This closure will allow the deployment of the temporary pedestrian bridge to begin the demolition and reconstruction of the Gulick Avenue overpass. Therefore, the H-1 Freeway in both directions within the affected area will be closed on SATURDAY, JULY 11, 2026, from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. During this closure, all traffic will divert onto King Street and School Street.

AFFECTED ROUTE:	3, 54, E, & A LINE
AFFECTED AREA:	Full closure of the H-1 Freeway in both directions between Middle Street merge and Likelike Highway off ramp.
DATE:	Saturday, July 11, 2026
TIME:	8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., unless directed by Police.

Buses will DETOUR as outlined below:

ROUTE 3, KAIMUKI-SALT LAKE

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to Moanalua/Funston Road overpass, veer right to take King Street on-ramp, continue on King, left Houghtailing, right Olomea, onto Vineyard, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to Vineyard/Palama, remain on Vineyard, onto Halona, left Houghtailing, right King, veer right onto Ola, veer onto Kaua, continue on Kaua, and then resume the regular route after passing Funston.

ROUTE 54, HONOLULU-PEARL CITY

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to ‘MOANALUA/FT SHAFTER/KING ST EXIT’, veer right to take FT SHAFTER/KING ST on-ramp, continue Moanalua Frontage Road, after passing Funston Road overpass, veer right to take King Street on-ramp, continue on King, left Houghtailing, right Olomea, onto Vineyard, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to Vineyard/Palama, remain on Vineyard, onto Halona, left Houghtailing, right King, veer right onto Ola, veer onto Kaua, crossover Middle, veer left to take 78 WEST ‘MOANALUA FREEWAY’ on-ramp, and then resume the regular route.

ROUTE E, COUNTRY EXPRESS

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to H-1 FREEWAY EAST/EXIT 18A 92 EAST/WAIKIKI/NIMITZ HIGHWAY, take ‘EXIT 18A - 92 EAST/WAIKIKI/NIMITZ HIGHWAY’, onto Nimitz, left Waiakamilo, right Olomea, onto Vineyard, right Pali, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to Hotel/Alakea, continue on Hotel, left Bishop, right Nimitz, take ‘H-1 FREEWAY WEST/AIRPORT/PEARL HARBOR/JOINT BASE PHH’ on-ramp, onto H-1 FREEWAY WEST, and then resume the regular route.

ROUTE A LINE

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to Nimitz/Ahua, remain on Nimitz, left Waiakamilo, right Olomea, onto Vineyard, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to Vineyard/Palama, remain on Vineyard, onto Halona, left Houghtailing, right Nimitz, after passing Sand Island Access, veer right to remain on Nimitz, and then resume the regular route after passing Kakoi.
