Service Animals on TheBus
Your service animal is welcome on TheBus. No permit is required, but you may be asked to confirm that your animal is a service animal.
You are responsible for the care and supervision of your animal while on board.
If you are planning on bringing your service animal on a bus, please follow these guidelines:
- Your service animal must remain under your control at all times.
- The animal must remain at your feet or on your lap. The animal may not sit on a vehicle seat.
- The animal must not be aggressive toward people or other animals.
- The animal must be housebroken.
- You are responsible for any damage or soiling caused by the animal.
How we define “service animal”
The U.S. Department of Transportation regulations states that “service animal” means any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability, including, but not limited to, guiding individuals with impaired vision, alerting individuals with impaired hearing to intruders and sounds, providing minimal protection or rescue work, pulling a wheelchair, or fetching dropped items (49 CFR Section 37.3).
An animal which solely provides emotional support, well-being, comfort or companionship is not a service animal.
These types of animals, “companion animals,” are considered pets, which are allowed on board in a closed carrier pursuant to ROH 15B-3.1(f)(B).
Food and Drink on TheBus
Consuming open food and drink are prohibited on Skyline trains and stations, and TheBus, to help maintain a clean and safe environment for all riders.
Passengers may carry food and beverages only if they are properly sealed, covered, or packaged to minimize the risk of spills or leaks.
City ordinance prohibits consuming any form of food or beverage or carrying or possessing any food or beverage in a container other than a container that is tightly closed, covered or packaged to minimize the possibility of accidental spillage when the container is shaken or dropped.
