Events/Short Term Detour Information

First Friday Event – OCTOBER 3, 2014

The FIRST FRIDAY EVENT in Downtown Honolulu will be held on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2014.  All City buses will be DETOURED off Hotel Street between Richards Street and the River Street Bridge starting at 7:30 p.m. until the last scheduled bus operating on Hotel Street.  Traffic barricades will be set up at Hotel/Alakea, Hotel/River, and the River Street Bridge to restrict traffic.  The last “THROUGH BUS” connections will be at the King/Beretania Junction bus stop for eastbound connections and the Beretania/Pali bus stop for westbound connections.   

AFFECTED AREA:

No service on Hotel Street from River to Richards. 

Bus riders may board buses:

·       Eastbound on King

·       Westbound on Beretania

Westbound:  TheBus will travel the regular route to Beretania/Punchbowl, continue on Beretania to Beretania/King Junction at Aala Park, right King, and then resume the regular route. 

ROUTE 19, WAIKIKI-AIRPORT-HICKAM 

Eastbound:   No detour. 

Westbound:  Last westbound connection at the Beretania/Pali bus stop.  TheBus will board anyone waiting at the Alakea/Hotel bus stop and have them transfer at the Beretania/Pali bus stop.

ROUTE 11, MAKALAPA-HALAWA-AIEA HEIGHTS

21st ANNUAL OAHU HEART WALK 

The 21st ANNUAL OAHU HEART WALK will be held on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2014.  The 4.5-mile walk will begin at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand, proceed along Monsarrat, around Diamond Head and finish at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.  The 1-mile walk will circle Kapiolani Park. 

TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route. During the walk, there will be no service on Monsarrat between Kalakaua and Paki.  Passengers may board westbound buses at Paki/Monsarrat. 

AFFECTED AREA:

No service on Monsarrat from Kalakaua to Paki.

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to Kuhio/Kapahulu, left Kapahulu, right Leahi to temporary terminus at Leahi/Lakimau ewa of Paki Park.

Westbound:  TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus at Leahi/Lakimau ewa of Paki Park, continue east on Leahi, right Monsarrat, right Paki, left Kapahulu, and then resume the regular route. 

ROUTE 23, HAWAII KAI-SEA LIFE PARK

Eastbound:   To Hawaii Kai/Sea Life Park – TheBus will travel the regular route to Kuhio/Kapahulu, left Kapahulu, right Leahi, left Monsarrat, and then resume the regular route.  

Westbound:  No detour. 

ROUTE 24, KAPAHULU-AINA HAINA

Eastbound:   To Aina Haina – TheBus will travel the regular route to Kapahulu/Ala Wai, right Ala Wai, left Ohua, left Kuhio, left Kapahulu, right Leahi, left Monsarrat, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound:  No detour. 

ROUTE W1, WAIPAHU VIA FARRINGTON EXPRESS

ROUTE W2, WAIPAHU VIA PAIWA EXPRESS

ROUTE W3, KALIHI VIA SCHOOL STREET EXPRESS

A.M. Operation:   TheBus will travel the regular route to end at the Kuhio/Kapahulu temporary bus stop.

 


CHILDREN AND YOUTH DAY PARADE 

The CHILDREN AND YOUTH DAY PARADE will be held on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2014.  The parade will travel along the makai-bound lanes of Punchbowl Street between Beretania and King. The event is expected to have over 4,000 participants.

No service on Punchbowl Street between Beretania and King.

Eastbound:   No detour. 

Westbound:  TheBus will travel the regular route to Beretania/Punchbowl, continue on Beretania, left Richards, left King, right Punchbowl, and then resume the regular route. 

 


KA IWI COAST RUN/WALK 

The KA IWI COAST RUN/WALK will be held on SUNDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2014.  This event is expected to have 1,000 participants and will close all traffic lanes on Kalanianaole Highway from Sandy Beach to Maunalua Bay Beach Park. TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route. 

AFFECTED AREA:

No service on Kalanianaole Highway from Sandy Beach to Maunalua Bay Beach Park.

FARRINGTON HIGHWAY CLOSURE
OLD FORT WEAVER ROAD TO KUALAKAI PARKWAY

Beginning MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2014, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, Farrington Highway will be closed from Old Fort Weaver Road to Kualakai Parkway, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (except eastbound Monday through Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.)

Limited service on Farrington Highway from Old Fort Weaver Road to Kualakai Parkway.

Monday through Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to Farrington/Kualakai, left Kualakai, right H-1 EAST, take EXIT 5 KUNIA, onto Fort Weaver, right EXIT 5 WAIPAHU, onto Farrington, and then resume the regular route. 

24 hours, 7 days a week

Westbound:  TheBus will travel the regular route to Farrington/Kunia, right Kunia, left Makakilo/Kapolei/Waianae on-ramp to H-1 WEST, take EXIT 3 KAPOLEI/EWA/UH WEST OAHU, left Kualakai, right Farrington, and then resume the regular route.

 


ROUTE C, COUNTRY EXPRESS!, DETOUR 

Effective MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2014, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, Route C, Country Express!, will detour in the Kapolei area as follows:  

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel from Kapolei Transit Center, continue on Haumea, right Wakea, left Kamaaha, left Fort Barrette, onto Makakilo (service stop at Makakilo/Farrington), and then resume the regular route onto H-1 Freeway. 

Westbound:  TheBus will travel from Makakilo/Farrington, continue onto Fort Barrette, right Kamaaha, right Wakea, left Haumea, and then resume the regular route to the Kapolei Transit Center.


EASTBOUND ON-RAMP TO MOANALUA FREEWAY CLOSURE 

Beginning TUESDAY, SEPTMEBER 2, 2014, and UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, Kiewit will be closing the eastbound on-ramp to Moanalua Freeway at Kamehameha Highway and Honomanu Street.

Eastbound on ramp to Moanalua Freeway at Kamehameha/Honomanu.

ROUTE 53, HONOLULU- PACIFIC PALISADES

A.M. OUT OF SERVICE BUSES 

Eastbound:       TheBus will travel the regular route to Kamehameha/McGrew Point, continue on Kamehameha, left Salt Lake, veer left to continue on Salt Lake, left Salt Lake (at traffic light), right Kamehameha (westbound), onto the “HONOLULU” on ramp to Moanalua Freeway and then resume the regular route.

 


KONA STREET NIGHT CLOSURE

Beginning SUNDAY, AUGUST 24, 2014, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, the eastbound lanes of Kona Street will be closed from Keeaumoku Street to Atkinson Drive due to construction. Eastbound traffic on Kona Street will be detoured onto Keeaumoku Street.    

Note:  TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route.  

AFFECTED AREA:

No eastbound service on Kona Street from Keeaumoku Street to Atkinson Drive.

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to drop off all passengers at Kona/Kona Iki Bus Stop #847, then continue out of service left Kona Iki, right Kapiolani, right Keeaumoku, right Kona to the temporary stop/terminus prior to Kona Iki. 

Westbound:  TheBus will travel from the temporary stop/terminus at Kona Kona Iki, right Kona Iki,

right Kapiolani, right Atkinson, and then resume the regular route after passing Mahukona. 

ROUTE 8, WAIKIKI-ALA MOANA  

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to Kona/Kona Iki, left Kona Iki, right Kapiolani, right

Atkinson, and then resume the regular route after passing Mahukona.

FARRINGTON HIGHWAY CLOSURE -
OLD FORT WEAVER ROAD TO KUALAKAI PARKWAY

Beginning MONDAY, AUGUST 4, 2014, TO MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2014, from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Monday through Friday, Farrington Highway will be closed from Old Fort Weaver Road to Kualakai Parkway.

Ala Moana/Coral
Eastbound Bus Stop

Beginning MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2014, for approximately one year, Swinerton Builders will be remodeling 677 Ala Moana Boulevard.  This work will result in the closure of the Ala Moana/Coral eastbound bus stop (#952).  A temporary bus stop will be located Diamond Head of Coral Street fronting Cutter Chevrolet.

ROUTE 52: WAHIAWA-HALEIWA DETOUR

The following Route 52, Honolulu-Mililani-Haleiwa DETOUR in Wahiawa/Haleiwa Town area will remain in effect until further notice. The City's Department of Transportation Services/Public Transit Division is currently evaluating a PERMANENT routing for this area of travel.

Westbound from Wahiawa Transit Center to Haleiwa Town: TheBus will travel the regular route west from Wahiawa Transit Center to Kamehameha Highway towards Haleiwa Town. At the Kamehameha Highway/Weed Junction intersection, DETOUR by continuing WEST on Joseph P. Leong Highway, left onto Kamehameha Highway into Haleiwa Town from the Haleiwa Beach Park area, continue EAST on Kamehameha Highway to the TEMPORARY TERMINUS on Kamehameha Highway at Achiu Lane.

Eastbound from Haleiwa Town (Kamehameha Highway/Achiu Lane) to Wahiawa Transit Center: TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus, east on Kamehameha Highway through Haleiwa Town, left at Weed Circle, right onto the access ramp to Kamehameha Highway East. Proceed east on Kamehameha Highway and at the Kamehameha Highway/Kilani Avenue intersection, turn left Kilani Avenue, right N. Cane Street, right California Avenue, right Wahiawa Transit Center.
