MAYOR’S ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY/PARADE 

The MAYOR’S ANNUAL CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY/PARADE will be held on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2019.  The parade will begin at Aala Park, proceed on King St., and end at King/South.  TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route.

AFTER PARADE DETOURS

After the parade ends on King St. in front of Honolulu Hale (King/Punchbowl intersection), HPD will re-direct ALL EASTBOUND King St. traffic to turn right on Punchbowl.  Buses will then DETOUR as indicated below: 

Routes 1 & 2: TheBus will travel the regular route to King/Punchbowl (King Kamehameha Statue), continue in the right lane of King, right Punchbowl, left Queen, left South, right King, and then resume the regular route. 

Routes 4, 11 & 54: TheBus will travel the regular route to King/Punchbowl (King Kamehameha Statue), continue in the right lane of King, right Punchbowl, left Queen, left South, right King, left Alapai Transit Center. 

Routes 3, 9, 13, 40, 52, A, C, & E: TheBus will travel the regular route to King/Punchbowl (King Kamehameha Statue), continue in the right lane of King, right Punchbowl, left Queen, left South, right Kapiolani, and then resume the regular route. 

 


KANEOHE CHRISTMAS PARADE 

The KANEOHE CHRISTMAS PARADE will be held on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2019.  The parade will begin on Haiku Rd. near the Windward Mall, proceed onto Kamehameha Hwy., onto Kaneohe Bay Dr., and end at Castle High School.  TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route.

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus at Alaloa/Heeia, continue on Alaloa, right Kahuhipa, left Kahekili, take left lanes for access ramp to Likelike, onto Likelike, right Kamehameha, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound:  TheBus will travel the regular route to Kamehameha/Windward City Shopping Center temporary bus stop, veer to turn left on Likelike, right Kahekili, right Kahuhipa, left Alaloa, left Haiku, right Heeia, right Alaloa, and then travel to the temporary terminus at Alaloa/Haiku.

ROUTE 651, KANEOHE CIRCULATOR

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel from Alaloa/Kahuhipa, right Kahuhipa, left Kahekili, take left lanes for access ramp to Likelike, onto Likelike, right Kamehameha, make a left U-turn at Kaneohe Elementary School pedestrian overpass, onto Kamehameha, right Koa Kahiko, veer right onto Koa Kahiko, left Mealele, right Namoku, left Mikihilina, right Mokulele, right Kaneohe Bay Dr, right Keana, right Iole, left Mokulele, left Mikihilina, right Namoku, left Mealele, right Koa Kahiko, veer left to continue on Koa Kahiko, and then travel to the temporary terminus at Koa Kahiko/Kamehameha.

MILILANI HOLIDAY PARADE 

The MILILANI HOLIDAY PARADE will be held on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2019.  The parade will begin at Mililani High School on Kipapa Dr., continue past Mililani Shopping Center, right Moenamanu St., left Kuahelani Ave., right Meheula Pkwy., left Lanikuhana Ave., right into Mililani Town Center.  TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route.

ROUTE 501, MILILANI MAUKA 

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to Ainamakua/Meheula, right Meheula, (does not enter Mililani Transit Center) left Kamehameha, left Lanikuhana, left Makaimoimo, to the temporary terminus at Makaimoimo/Opposite Paiua. 

Westbound:  TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus at Makaimoimo/Opposite Paiua, continue on Makaimoimo, left Meheula, left Kamehameha, left Ka Uka, left onto H2 “NORTH MILILANI”, take EXIT 5A “MILILANI MAUKA”, onto Meheula, right Ainamakua, and then resume the regular route.

ROUTE 503, MILILANI-LAUNANI VALLEY 

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to Kamehameha/Waikalani, continue on Kamehameha, left Lanikuhana, left Makaimoimo, to the temporary terminus at Makaimoimo/Opposite Paiua. 

Westbound: TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus at Makaimoimo/Opposite Paiua, continue on Makaimoimo, left Meheula, right Kamehameha, right Waihau, left Waimakua, and then resume the regular route.

ROUTE 504, MILILANI SOUTH 

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to Kuahelani/Kamehameha, right Kamehameha, left Lanikuhana, left Makaimoimo, to the temporary terminus at Makaimoimo/Opposite Paiua. 

Westbound: TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus at Makaimoimo/Opposite Paiua, continue on Makaimoimo, left Meheula, right Kamehameha, left Kuahelani, and then resume the regular route.

 


PEARL HARBOR MEMORIAL ANNIVERSARY PARADE 

The PEARL HARBOR MEMORIAL ANNIVERSARY PARADE will be held on SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2019 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  The parade will begin at Fort DeRussy, proceed along Kalakaua to Monsarrat, and terminate at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand parking lot.  During the parade, there will be no westbound service on Kalia Rd.  All westbound passengers will be boarded and transferred to their desired westbound routes on Ala Moana/Ena.  TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route. 

AFFECTED ROUTES:

8, 14, 19, 20, 23, 24, 42, & E

AFFECTED AREA:

No service on Saratoga, on Kalakaua from Saratoga to Monsarrat, and on Monsarrat from Kalakaua to the Elks Club. Kalia will be serviced in the eastbound direction only.  Westbound passengers should board buses at Ala Moana/Ena.

Westbound:  TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus, continue on Kapahulu, right Kuhio, onto Kalakaua, right Pau, left Ala Wai, left Niu, onto Ala Moana, and then resume the regular route after crossing Ena. 

ROUTE 14, ST. LOUIS-MAUNALANI 

Eastbound:   TheBus will travel the regular route to Kapahulu/Ala Wai, right Ala Wai, left Ohua, left Kuhio, left Kapahulu, right Leahi, right Noela, left Paki, right Kalakaua to make a left U-turn at Dillingham Fountain, left Kalakaua, and then resume the regular route.

HONOLULU MARATHON 

The HONOLULU MARATHON will be held on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2019.  Approximately 35,000 runners and wheelchair racers will participate in this year’s race.  Wheelchair entrants will be escorted by bicycles and will start at 4:55 a.m.  Runners will start at 5:00 a.m. and roadways will progressively open throughout the day.  TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route.

2019 HONOLULU MARATHON – EXTRA BUS SERVICE

The HONOLULU MARATHON will be held on SUNDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2019, starting at 5:00 A.M.  Due to the number of marathon runners returning to their Waikiki hotels from Kapiolani Park, four (4) extra buses will be scheduled to provide one-way service via Route 8, westbound, from Monsarrat/Kalakaua to Kalia/Maluhia (Hilton Hawaiian Village).

The 73rd ANNUAL KAIMUKI CHRISTMAS PARADE will be held on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5, 2019.  The parade will begin at the entrance of the St. Louis/Chaminade campus, continue on Waialae Ave. to the corner of Koko Head and Waialae. TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route.

First Friday Arts & Culture block party 

The /span> FIRST FRIDAY ARTS & CULTURE BLOCK PARTY will be held on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2019.  All routes will be detoured off of Hotel St. in both directions, between Richards St. and the River St. Bridge, starting at 7:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.  The westbound “LAST THROUGH BUS” connections will be at the Beretania/Pali bus stop.  TheBus will service all bus stops along the detour route.

HOLIDAY Parades IN DECEMBER 

 

Parades will be held during the month of December in celebration of the holiday season.  These parades will travel along City bus routes which may impact bus operations.  

 

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5

 

KAIMUKI CHRISTMAS PARADE:  5:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.

Fifteen hundred marchers, five floats, and thirty-five vehicles are expected to participate. The parade will start at St. Louis/Chaminade, continue on Waialae, right Koko Head, and finish at the corner of Koko Head and Waialae.

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6

 

WAHIAWA TOWN CHRISTMAS PARADE:  6:30 P.M. TO 7:30 P.M.

Three hundred marchers, two floats, and ten vehicles are expected to participate. The parade will start at Kaala Elementary School, continue on California Ave., left Cane, left Center, and finish behind the Wahiawa Transit Center.

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7

 

KANEOHE CHRISTMAS PARADE:  9:00 A.M. TO 12:30 P.M.

One thousand eight hundred marchers, forty vehicles, eighteen floats, and five bands are expected to participate. The parade will start at Windward Mall at Haiku Rd., right Kamehameha, left Kaneohe Bay Dr., and finish at Castle High School.

 

MILILANI HOLIDAY PARADE:  9:00 A.M. TO 11:00 A.M.

One thousand five hundred marchers, thirty vehicles, ten floats, and two bands are expected to participate. The parade will start at Mililani High School on Kipapa Dr. continue past Mililani Shopping Center, right Moenamanu St., left Kuahelani Ave., right Meheula Pkwy., left Lanikuhana Ave., right into Mililani Town Center.

 

MAYOR’S ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY/PARADE:  5:00 P.M. TO 11:00 P.M.

Two thousand marchers, fifteen vehicles, and forty floats are expected to participate. The parade will start at Aala Park, continue on King St., and end at South St.

 

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12

 

KAPAHULU-MOILIILI CHRISTMAS PARADE:  6:30 P.M. TO 7:30 P.M.

Two hundred and fifty marchers and five to eight vehicles are expected to participate. The parade will start at Kuhio Elementary School, westbound on King, to Beretania, left Isenberg, and end at the Old Stadium Park.

 

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13

 

HALEIWA TOWN CHRISTMAS PARADE:  6:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.

Five hundred marchers, forty five vehicles, five floats, and three bands are expected to participate. The parade will start at Weed Circle, continue on Kamehameha through Haleiwa Town, and end at Haleiwa Beach Park.

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 14

 

AIEA COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION CHRISTMAS PARADE:  9:00 A.M. TO 10:30 A.M.

Two hundred marchers, ten vehicles, five floats, and two bands are expected to participate. The parade will start at Pearlridge Elementary School, eastbound on Moanalua, left Kaamilo, right Ulune, right Aiea Heights, left Halewiliko, and end at the Aiea Sugar Mill site.

 

WAIMANALO CHRISTMAS PARADE:  9:00 A.M. TO 10:30 A.M 

One hundred marchers, four vehicles, four floats, and two bands are expected to participate. The parade will start at Waimanalo District Park, right Hihimanu St., left Kakaina St., right Mahailua St., right Kumuhau St., right Kalanianaole Hwy., and end at Waimanalo Beach Park.

 

WAIPAHU CHRISTMAS PARADE:  3:00 P.M. TO 3:45 P.M

Ten vehicles are expected to participate.  The parade will start at Waipahu Elementary School, on Waipahu St. (ewa bound), left Leoku, right Leolua St., and end at Waipahu Town Center near Hele Gas Station.

 

MANOA COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS PARADE:  5:00 P.M. TO 7:00 P.M.

One thousand one hundred marchers, twelve vehicles, and five bands are expected to participate. The parade will start at Noelani Elementary, continue on Woodlawn, onto Kolowalu, right East Manoa, left Lowrey, right Manoa, and end at Manoa Park.

 

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 15

 

OLOMANA CHRISTMAS PARADE:  2:00 P.M. TO 3:30 P.M.

Thirty marchers, ten vehicles, and seven floats are expected to participate. The parade will start at Maunawili Elementary School, left Ulupii, left Ulupuni, right Uluohao, right Uluhala, left Ulupuni, right Ulukou, and end at Maunawili Elementary School.

 

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 21

 

EWA BEACH LIONS CLUB CHRISTMAS PARADE:  10:00 A.M. TO 12:30 P.M.

One thousand marchers, eighty vehicles, twelve floats, and two bands are expected to participate.  The parade will start at Ilima Intermediate School, right Fort Weaver, right Kuhina, right Hanakahi, right North, right Fort Weaver, and finish at Ilima Intermediate School.

HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

PALI HIGHWAY ROAD CLOSURE  

The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) has closed a portion of Pali Highway, between Waokanaka St. and Kamehameha Highway eastbound, Sunday through Friday from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. starting on TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2019, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Pali Highway will be opened 24/7 in the Kailua bound direction and daily from 5:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m in the Honolulu bound direction Monday through Friday. Weekends Pali Highway will be open in both directions from 5:00 a.m. Saturday through 8:00 p.m. Sunday. TheBus will service all stops along Kamehameha Hwy.

SHUTTLE FOR HALEIWA-BOUND ROUTE 60

Effective SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2019 – TUESDAY NOVEMBER 26, 2019, Kamehameha Highway will be closed at Laniakea Beach to Kawela Beach from 12:00 AM to 2:30 AM on Sunday through Thursday nights, except on 10/31/19 and 11/11/19. A courtesy shuttle will be provided for TheBus riders and will run at the normal TheBus schedule times, with a possibility of up to a 15 minute delay. Dates subject to change based on conditions.

KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY CLOSURE (LANIAKEA BEACH TO KAWELA BEACH)

KALIHI TRANSIT CENTER RAIL STATION CONSTRUCTION 

Construction of the Middle Street rail station will require the closure of the turnaround area at the Kalihi Transit Center.  Traffic flow in the Transit Center will be detoured starting at 8:00 a.m., MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2019, 24 hours a day/7 days a week, until further notice.  Westbound buses will service the bus stops along the Ewa side of the transit center, and eastbound buses will service the bus stops along the Diamond Head side of the transit center.
