HIBISCUS HALF MARATHON

The HIBISCUS HALF MARATHON, sponsored by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society/Boca Hawaii, will be held on Sunday May 26, 2013. Approximately 800 runners are expected to participate in this event, starting at 6:00 a.m. from the mauka lanes of Kalakaua Avenue, fronting the Tennis Courts. City Buses on the following routes will DETOUR from approximately 5:45 a.m. to approximately 9:30 a.m., or when directed by the Police.

The race course is as follows:

From Kalakaua Avenue fronting the Kapiolani Park Bandstand Tennis Courts, ewa on Kalakaua Avenue, right Monsarrat Avenue, right Paki Avenue, onto Diamond Head Lookout Road, left onto Diamond Head Road, right 18th Avenue, right Kilauea Avenue, right Waialae Avenue access ramp to H-1 Freeway East, east onto H-1 Freeway, east onto Kalanianaole Highway, turnaround at Wailupe Beach Park (Kalanianaole/West Hind), returning west on Kalanianaole Highway, left Waialae Avenue access ramp, left Kealaoulu Avenue, right Kahala Avenue, onto Diamond Head Lookout Road, cross over Poni Moi Street to Paki Avenue, left Kalakaua Avenue in the ewa bound lanes to the finish point fronting the Honolulu Marathon Finish Line.

  • The eastbound makai curb lane of Kalanianaole Highway, between the Waialae Avenue
    on-ramp and West Hind Drive will be coned off for the run course. TheBus will service bus stops outside of the coned lanes.

Route 1, Kaimuki-Kalihi

Eastbound: No detour.

Westbound: No detour.

Route 8, Waikiki-Ala Moana

Route 42, Ewa Beach-Waikiki

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to the Monsarrat Avenue/Kalakaua Avenue split medial strip. TheBus will temporarily layover on the split area at the beginning of Monsarrat Avenue before the regular terminus until the regular terminus is re-opened again.

Westbound: TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus on the Monsarrat Avenue/Kalakaua Avenue split medial strip, proceed mauka on Monsarrat Avenue, servicing the first bus stop outside of the coned off right lane.

Route 14, St. Louis-Kahala-Maunalani

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to the Poni Moi Avenue/Paki Avenue/Diamond Head Road intersection DETOUR left Paki Avenue, right Monsarrat Avenue, onto Diamond Head Road, left Makapuu Avenue, right Kilauea Avenue, left Pahoa Avenue, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to the Kilauea Avenue/Pueo Street intersection. WAIT for HPD to allow bus to turn left onto Pueo Street. Resume regular route west along Kahala Avenue and Diamond Head Road and Paki Avenue, and then resume the regular route to St. Louis Heights. NOTE: The runners should be running on the makai side/mauka bound lanes of Kahala Avenue and Diamond Head Lookout Road.

Route 19, Waikiki-Airport-Hickam

Route 20, Waikiki-Pearlridge

Eastbound: No detours. Note: Possible Traffic Delays at the Poni Moi Street/Paki Avenue intersection at the 6:00 a.m. start of the race and when runners are running back to Kapiolani Park.

Westbound: No detours.

Route 22, Beach Bus

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to the Poni Moi Street/Paki Avenue/Diamond Head Road intersection. DETOUR left Paki Avenue, right Monsarrat Avenue, onto Diamond Head Road, left Makapuu Avenue, right Kilauea Avenue to the Kilauea Avenue/Waialae Avenue access roadway east.  If the designated right turn lane is coned off for the runners, TheBus will DETOUR by continuing mauka on Kilauea Avenue crossing over Waialae Avenue, right Malia Street, right Ainakoa Avenue, left Kalanianaole Highway, and then resume the regular route.

Westbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to the Kilauea Avenue/Pueo Street intersection. WAIT for HPD to allow bus to turn left onto Pueo Street. Resume regular route west along Kahala Avenue and Diamond Head Road and Paki Avenue, and then resume the regular route.

Route 23, Hawaii Kai-Sea Life Park

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route along Monsarrat Avenue, servicing the Kapiolani Park bus stops outside of the coned off right lane. East on Monsarrat Avenue, onto Diamond Head Road, left 18th Avenue, right Kilauea Avenue to the Kilauea Avenue/Waialae Avenue access roadway east. If the designated right turn lane is coned off for the runners, TheBus will DETOUR by continuing mauka on Kilauea Avenue crossing over Waialae Avenue, right Malia Street, right Ainakoa Avenue, left Kalanianaole Highway, and then resume the regular route.

Route 24, Kapahulu-Aina Haina

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route along Monsarrat Avenue, servicing the Kapiolani Park bus stops outside of the coned off right lane. East on Monsarrat Avenue, onto Diamond Head Road, left 18th Avenue, right Kilauea Avenue to the Kilauea Avenue/Waialae Avenue access roadway east. If the designated right turn lane is coned off for the runners, TheBus will DETOUR by continuing mauka on Kilauea Avenue crossing over Waialae Avenue, right Malia Street, right Ainakoa Avenue, left Kalanianaole Highway, and then resume the regular route.

MAILE WAY ROAD REPAIRS
Revised: May 15, 2013

Starting Monday, May 13, 2013, through Sunday, August 18, 2013, road repairs will be scheduled on all sections of Maile Way, at the University of Manoa Campus. This project will affect Routes 6, and 13, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A complete road closure will be done on one direction of Maile Way where the major road rehabilitation is under construction. The other direction will be contra-flowed for regular two-way traffic 24/7. The initial first phase work section will be on Maile Way, eastbound (makai-side), between University Avenue and Hamilton Library.

NOTE: Detours are subject to revisions. Bus detour notices may be updated with revised updated information as needed.

Westbound: No detour.

Route 13, Liliha-Waikiki-University

Eastbound: TheBus will travel the regular route to the Dole Street/East West Road intersection. DETOUR right East West Road to the temporary terminus fronting the John Burns Hall building.

Westbound: TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus fronting the John Burns Hall building, DETOUR mauka on East West Road, left Maile Way, left University Avenue, left Dole Street, and then resume the regular route after crossing over East West Road.

ROUTE 52: WAHIAWA-HALEIWA DETOUR

The following Route 52, Honolulu-Mililani-Haleiwa DETOUR in Wahiawa/Haleiwa Town area will remain in effect until further notice. The City's Department of Transportation Services/Public Transit Division is currently evaluating a PERMANENT routing for this area of travel.

Westbound from Wahiawa Transit Center to Haleiwa Town: TheBus will travel the regular route west from Wahiawa Transit Center to Kamehameha Highway towards Haleiwa Town. At the Kamehameha Highway/Weed Junction intersection, DETOUR by continuing WEST on Joseph P. Leong Highway, left onto Kamehameha Highway into Haleiwa Town from the Haleiwa Beach Park area, continue EAST on Kamehameha Highway to the TEMPORARY TERMINUS on Kamehameha Highway at Achiu Lane.

Eastbound from Haleiwa Town (Kamehameha Highway/Achiu Lane) to Wahiawa Transit Center: TheBus will travel from the temporary terminus, east on Kamehameha Highway through Haleiwa Town, left at Weed Circle, right onto the access ramp to Kamehameha Highway East. Proceed east on Kamehameha Highway and at the Kamehameha Highway/Kilani Avenue intersection, turn left Kilani Avenue, right N. Cane Street, right California Avenue, right Wahiawa Transit Center.

 


ROUTES 62 AND 72, MACOMB GATE TEMPORARY CLOSURE

Starting Wednesday, January 2, 2013, through Saturday, June 1, 2013, Macomb Gate entering Schofield Barracks will be temporarily CLOSED due to construction for a traffic round-about. This closure will be 24/7 entering the gate. However, plans are to keep the gate available for outbound traffic to exit. Also, the gate hours for McNair Gate will be temporarily revised to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

DETOUR by continuing north on Wilikina Drive in the left lane, left at the entrance road into McNair Gate. From McNair Gate, veer left onto McCornack Road, right Waianae Avenue, left Ayres Avenue, resuming regular westbound routing of Ayres Avenue, left Cadet Sheridan Road, left Trimble Road, left Heard Avenue, left Waianae Avenue into the left lane to DETOUR north on Waianae Avenue to the eastbound terminus at Waianae Avenue and Gorgas Road.

Westbound-Schofield Barracks to Whitmore: From the regular Waianae Avenue/Gorgas Road terminus, DETOUR north on Waianae Avenue, right McCornack Road, exit McNair Gate, right Wilikina Drive, resuming regular route westbound after servicing the Wilikina Drive/McComb Gate bus stop.
